13. JO NOERO ARCHITECTS

This was a daring new design by Jo Noero architects for Christ Church in Somerset Wet. The perfect cirular shape has poetic significance for this meaningful religious building.

A cross-shaped skylight lights the auditorium from above. The building has been carefully designed for optimum acoustics.

The interior of the church echos the circular motif of the play layout.

14. JORDAAN ARCHITECTS

The architect typcially designs in the Cape Vernacular, style, taking it to the next level in this significant building on Somerset West main road.

15. GLH

Althought their offices are located in Joburg, this company has designed a significant building in Somerset West - the Stables Restaurant at Vergelegen Wine farm. The buildings tastefully blend with the historical buildings on the site.

The wine tasting center and Stables restaurant are designed in an L-shape, with an indigenous landscape garden inbetween.

The restaurant has a thatch roof, but with more relaxed hipped ends, rather than parapets that would have competed with the historical buildings on the site.

The setting with the Helderberg mountains in the background make this a memorable place to visit.

CHAPMAN'S PEAK DRIVE

Very near to the center of the city was one of the most spectacular drives, with shear orange cliffs to the one side, and rocks into the Azure Atlantic waters on the other. This is now a toll road... pay a little more and help prevent rock falls. Take the M6 between Hout Bay and Noordhoek.

VERGELEGEN

This must is a must-see stop on your travel itenary. Vergelegen is a historic Cape Dutch manor house set amid a sprawling and beautifully articulated garden with many different atmospheres and surprises. The newly built restuarant, wine tasting venue and children's park, make it a more comfortable outing and enough to make a full day outing of it.
